The Identity of a GenXer.

Trying to figure out who you are is a tough thing once you get a certain age. You think you know. Better yet, you have convinced yourself that you know exactly who you are and what your contribution to the world is. You have been around just long enough to know which way is up. You are the “older” person people call to seek advise. You are the adult child of someone who still thinks they have it, but you are wondering how much longer they should be driving. You are the one who still listens to hip-hop music but the volume is just a touch lower. These are my people. The folks who still wanna be in the know but who shake their heads at the young kid. Where do WE fit? We are the Generation Xers. The ones who invented all this shit. So why are we beginning to feel left behind.
This is the month of my birth. My blogs this month will focus on reflection and forward movement. Please comment as it helps me have topics for discussion AND let’s me know I am not alone.

Growing Up

I realized recently that I am a grown up. Not by looking at the calendar or by that others tell me but by my reaction to situations. I don’t blow up at people like I used to. I am much more calm and level headed. I thought that meant I was weak, but what I now know is that I am surrounded my some people 10-15 years younger that me. No wonder I have very little patience for their antics.

What will this year bring?

It is always amazing that we start each year with great hopes and expectations for what is to come. I always wonder if, as we look for change, we are willing and ready for change. Not the external change, but the internal change we must make.
It takes guts to figure out who we are and how our behavior effects others and ourselves. We blame others for what is wrong and look to others to fix it. When do we take the time to fix it. When do we look inside and fix ourselves?
The bigger question is, do we want to?
I will do better.

2010 is here and so many people make new year’s resolutions. Why do we set ourselves up for failure? I don’t do this to myself because, honestly, I don’t care to.
I will make promises to myself to try to do certain things. 1. I will try to blog more. 2. I will try to eat better and work out more. 3. I will try to journal and record my life. 4. I will count my blessings even when they are hiding from me.
Well today we are all either dealing with a New Moon hangover from the midnight showing or we are scrambling to see it today! Or perhaps BOTH! Share with us your thoughts! What was your favorite part? Did Jacob live up to the book? What did you think of the ending? The Volturi: were they what you pictured?!
SPOILER ALERTS! SPOILER ALERTS!
I just want to throw in my two cents here and say I was very pleased! The movie stayed close to the book and I only teared up once when it was just saying “October. November. December” that was so heart breaking especially with Lykke Li’s song “Possibility” playing. I already have plans so see it at least 10 more times over the next two weeks. The wolves were great, Aro was EXACTLY how I imagined, the funny one liners had our whole theatre laughing out loud! The ending was PERFECT! Those are just my thoughts and please share with us what yours were!
